UN`s support to Albania and Sustainable Development Goals top discussions with Minister of Foreign Affair

The Minister of Foreign Affairs Ditmir Bushati held a meeting with members of the United Nations Country Team to discuss UN`s support to the country outlined in the Programme of Cooperation for Sustainable Development 2017-2021 and to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. 
Minister Bushati called the UN an esteemed partner to Albania and referred to specific partnership with UN country team to implement several interventions with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other line ministries such as the Center of Excellence, support to Diaspora, as well as Territorial and Administrative Reform.
During the meeting it was highlighted that the EU integration processes that Albania is going through, give rise to the need of UN`s up streamed policy advice, including the assistance to EU acquis transpose and building capacity of public officials for the EU negotiation process. 
Speaking about the Sustainable Development Goals, Minister Bushati outlined concrete actions undertaken by the Government to meet the Goals and welcomed UN`s support to help the country in this direction.

The UN Resident Coordinator in Albania Brian Williams, highlighted the importance of SDGs as a global commitment to sustainable development for the next 15 years, which serve as an anchor for UN`s work at country level. UN is currently coordinating with existing development structures within the government, on sectorial policy development and SDG mainstreaming.

The UN Resident Coordinator spoke of the need “to establish a national all-encompassing mechanism - led by the Government with the participation of parliament, civil society, academia, development partners, business sector - with the objective to consider the full range of development in the country, record progress through the lens of SDGs` achievement and to guide action in addressing gaps and challenges”.
