» One Environment Albania: Integrating environmental sustainability in development priorities of a One UN country in Europe

Short description: Under the One UN Programme the environmental component will address the following topics: mainstreaming environment in other sectors’ policies, public awareness, information and participation, environmental impact assessment and strategic environmental assessment, waste management, hot spots, financial and economic instruments, nature protection, climate change and urban development.
The environment programme will support Government efforts to implement key aspects of the National Environmental Strategy (NES). It will address critical capacity constraints that would otherwise act as barriers to effective implementation of the NES.
Operating at both national and local levels, the programme will design and implement targeted interventions in support of sustainable development and EU accession. These interventions would focus on mainstreaming environmental management within key economic sectors and associated government departments.
The programme has the following specific objectives:
Expected results: Under the programme, sustainable development will be incorporated in the policies and strategies of sectors such as energy, agriculture, tourism, forestry and industry, observing the commitments of the Albanian Government within the EU accession process.
