UN`s support to Albania and Sustainable Development Goals top discussions with Minister of Foreign Affairs » 28/02/2017
The Minister of Foreign Affairs Ditmir Bushati held a meeting with members of the United Nations Country Team to discuss UN`s support to the country outlined in the Programme of Cooperation for Sustainable Development 2017-2021 and to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
The UN Resident Coordinator in Albania Brian Williams, highlighted the importance of SDGs as a global commitment to sustainable development for the next 15 years, which serve as an anchor for UN`s work at country level. UN is currently coordinating with existing development structures within the government, on sectorial policy development and SDG mainstreaming.
The UN Resident Coordinator spoke of the need “to establish a national all-encompassing mechanism - led by the Government with the participation of parliament, civil society, academia, development partners, business sector - with the objective to consider the full range of development in the country, record progress through the lens of SDGs` achievement and to guide action in addressing gaps and challenges”.
The Coordinators of the four programme pillars presented their work in the areas of Governance and Rule of Law; Social Cohesion; Economic Growth; Employment, Agriculture and Environment and Climate Change
